I had trouble understanding calculus concepts online in first year. The midterm seemed written for someone who mastered the subject, and I got a 30 when the class average was 50. After discussing my midterm with the prof, things started to make more sense. I changed my studying approach to focus on understanding concepts and practice problems, and calculus ended up being my highest mark above the class average.
