Religion and Disability

How do religious texts and traditions represent and shape ideas about disabilities and vice versa? This course examines interpretive approaches, methods, and strategies related to many, and often conflicting, ideas about religion and disability. Students will gain content knowledge of and ability to critically examine texts and traditions, developing awareness of continuities and discontinuities between ancient and modern constructions of disability. Prior exposure to the study of religion or disability is not required. All readings will be in English.
