Psychology and History of Drug Use

This seminar will examine the historical and contemporary use of drugs. Students will be introduced to the general psychological and neuroscientific mechanisms by which drugs affect human behavior, and explore highlights of current research on drug effects in animals and humans. Restricted to first-year students. Not eligible for CR/NCR option.

PSY199: Psychology and History of Drug Use is a first-year foundation course that's less demanding than typical courses. The workload includes two essays, one debate, and weekly in-class discussions based on required readings from a textbook. The course wasn't my favorite since I'm not particularly interested in drug history, but many peers enjoyed it. If the subject matter interests you, it seems like a solid, manageable first-year option.
