Laboratory experiments in bacterial and eukaryotic genetics, with the focus on the fundamental tools of genetic analysis: mutation, suppression, complementation, recombination and genetic regulation (both epistasis and genetic interactions). Topics and experiments include mutagenesis and genetic selection, linkage and recombination, genetic crosses, gene regulation, suppressor analysis, cell fate determination, genetic interaction profiling, ordering genes in a genetic pathway, and genome engineering. MGY314 with Lavoie is a lot of work as she assigns a crazy amount of papers and pre-lab work to do, but the content itself was fun and easy in my opinion. I found it to be a GPA booster because the content was easy, not because it wasn't a lot of work. I strongly recommend the class if you love lab work and research.
