Indigenous Issues in Health and Healing

The basic premise of this course is that the health of Indigenous peoples is inseparable from the health of the planet. The aim of the course is to facilitate collective healing from our current social and economic system in a process of awareness-based learning of our relationship to each other, the planet and ourselves. Starting with students’ reflection of their relationship to colonialism and traditional teachings, the course is built around a collaborative, interdisciplinary team project of selecting a domain of mutual interest, researching the existing decolonizing programs in the community within that domain, and developing an ethical, real-world prototype of action that they would want to continue to develop after the course is completed.
