Second year German Studies major here. I'd recommend GER150: Introduction to German Culture if you're looking for a breadth course in the German department — it's taught in English. There is a bit of reading every week (no more than 20 pages) alongside two books you have to read over the duration of the course, but the written assignments are rather small and the exam is based solely on your readings. Although a lot of people take it for the breadth, GER150 is also required for the German Studies major.
