UTSGIntroductory Electronics
Methods for the analysis and design of electronic circuits based on semiconductor nonlinear components (diodes, bipolar junction transistors and field effect transistors) and operational amplifiers. The operational amplifier is introduced and its non-idealities are addressed, including the impact on circuit applications. Basic physical operation of semiconductor devices, current-voltage characteristics, operating regions, DC modeling, small-signal modelling and biasing. Fundamental circuits such as rectifiers, limiting and clamping circuits and transistor amplifiers.

Second year ECE student frustrated with ECE231 this year. Labs are manageable but prelab handouts post only 2 days before, which is tight. The major issue is that all quizzes were moved online this year, which doesn't work for a course built on long-answer questions requiring extensive writing and steps. Online format creates problems where one small mistake at the beginning cascades into failing the entire quiz. The student sees no advantage to this format besides reducing TA workload.
