Interactions Beyond Screens

Screen-based interaction design forms a crucial part of how we use today's technologies such as smartphones, tablets, and computers. This hands-on, lab-based course moves beyond the screen. In this class we introduce single-board computers (Raspberry Pi, Arduino, micro:bit) and consider how they can be used in tandem with sensors and actuators to design rich user experiences in a range of contexts including household appliances, museum installations, and smart cars. Topics covered include electronic circuits, microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, digital fabrication, physical prototyping, and user testing. Prior knowledge of a programming language is an asset.
