Introduction to Anthropology

What does it mean to be human? In this course, you will learn the diverse and varied ways that anthropologists address this question. You will explore such topics as human origins and biological variation, our primate relatives, the relationship between biology and culture, the diversity of political, economic, and social practices through space and time, the origin of farming and cities, the political use of archaeology and heritage, the relationship between language and society, religion, and how capitalism and Industrialization shape our lives. You will learn from specialists in Evolutionary Anthropology, Archaeology, and Socio-cultural and Linguistic Anthropology and have the chance for hands-on learning and discussion through biweekly tutorials.
